China Orders Ban on New Government Buildings – NYTimes

AP. “A newly constructed government office building in Anhui Province in 2007. China has ordered a halt to similar projects for the next five years.”

As NYTimes.com reports, Xi Jingping has taken quite a few measures to make good on his anti-corruption stance, articulated most prominently in the latest National Congress. While highly visibly and symbolic move, banning government buildings is the minimum Xi has to do to realistically combat corruption. Nonetheless this, along with Bo Xilai’s recent conviction, is a strong shot across the bow to Xi’s opulent subordinates, nothing less of threatening to the class that has become China’s contemporary mandarins.
